Pål Virik Nilsen makes a small comeback in Formula 2 circuit racing this weekend. He will race in the Norwegian Championship in Tønsberg harbor on friday and saturday.
In the eleventh hour, it became clear that Pal makes his return to circuit racing in a Formula 2 boat. He will borrow a Danish built Mølgaard and the race action starts friday night and the main two heats on saturday.
Looking forward to the challenge
- I'm really looking forward to the challenge says Pal. I am never a fan of having bad time before a race and this decision was taken quite late i think. Anyway, i am positive and looking forward to driving in Tønsberg. The boat is good and i have collected my best crew to assist me on Saturday. It's almost like a homerace for me because its only 30 km from home. It's not every year we have boat races in Vestfold so it's incredibly fun to be driving when i have this chance.
Former World Series race winner
Although Pal in the past decade has focused on offshore racing which is another branch of the sport, he has also run a few seasons in the Formula 2 class when it has been time for it. He has impressed with his flexibility as a driver and actually won races and been on the podium several times in the Formula 2 World Cup series. He started his boating career extending 21 years back in the circuit racing category.
- I am as usual humble and goes low with ambitions before the weekend. I'll do my best and hope the boat suits me. I get the answer to that when we test it for a few minutes before heading to Tønsberg friday. But I know me so well that once the helmet is on and start going, it is only the victory my head focusing on says Pal. Now when it is a little vacation before the next XCAT World Series race in China in October this is a golden opportunity to race with a boat and stay in shape speed wise.
I hope to see as many Sandefjord people as possible in Tønsberg because i really need all the support i can get on Saturday says a happy and motivated Pål Virik Nilsen.
