It was a sad start to the Class-1 season for Pal Virik Nilsen and Massimo Roggiero. The boat caught fire and some dramatic seconds saw both crew jumped out in the water. With much fuel onboard it was a scary moment. The boat is badly damaged and its the end og Qatar GP for the D'ALESSIO-SCAM team. Team manager and ower Mauro Dálessio says when this things happens i am happy that the crew is okay. Equipment can be fixed.
-Pal Says: I am very happy Massimo and myself are okay. We had a good feeling and went out on our second practice lap when i felt something wrong with one engine. I saw the oil pressure fell dramatically and backed of. Then Massimo say he smell smoke. Then i looked in his mirror and saw flames coming out of the engine hatch and air scoop. Then we got out in a hurry and jumped in the sea. With so much fuel its really dangerous to even get near the boat.
Now the team must work overtime to start the big clean up job in the boat.
